Traditional CrownsDeSoto, TX

Looking for traditional crowns in Desoto, TX? For an appointment at DeSoto Smile Studio, call our office today or make an appointment today.

There are different types of traditional crowns:

  • Ceramic: These are used for restoring front teeth and are popular in this area for their ability to blend with your natural tooth color. The crown is made of a porcelain-based material.
  • Porcelain-fused to metal: This crown provides a stronger bond than regular porcelain because it is connected to a metal structure. It’s also extremely durable.
  • Gold alloys: This crown is a mix of gold, copper and other metals. In addition to providing a strong bond to the tooth, it doesn’t fracture or wear away the tooth itself.
  • Base metal alloys: This crown is made up of non-noble metals that are highly resistant to corrosion and make for a very strong crown. It also requires the least amount of healthy tooth to be removed prior to fitting.

To make and place a traditional crown typically takes two separate appointments:

  1. The first appointment involves preparing (shaping) the tooth, taking an impression, and placing the temporary crown. The time needed to perform these steps can range from 30 minutes to an hour.
  2. During the time period between the two appointments, a dental laboratory will fabricate the crown. Two weeks or so are usually allotted for this process.
  3. When the patient returns for their second visit, the dentist will cement the finished crown into place. This step can usually be completed in about 20 minutes or so.

Your dentist at DeSoto Smile Studio will evaluate whether a traditional crown is a good option for you. Call us today!

The Restoration Process: What To Expect

To make and place a traditional crown typically takes two separate appointments to ensure the highest level of precision and fit.

The First Appointment

The initial visit involves preparing (shaping) the tooth, taking an impression, and placing the temporary crown. During this phase, the dentist removes any decay and contours the tooth so the crown can sit flush with your gumline. The time needed to perform these steps can range from 30 minutes to an hour. We use high-quality impression materials to create a 3D mold of your mouth, which serves as the blueprint for your permanent restoration.

Fabrication Period

During the time period between the two appointments, a dental laboratory will fabricate the crown. Two weeks or so are usually allotted for this process. Skilled lab technicians carefully layer the materials to match the exact shade and contours specified by your dentist.

The Second Appointment

When the patient returns for their second visit, the dentist will cement the finished crown into place. After checking the fit and your bite alignment, the permanent crown is bonded using high-strength dental cement. This step can usually be completed in about 20 minutes or so.

Long-Term Care &

Durability

A traditional crown is designed to be a long-term solution. With proper oral hygiene—including twice-daily brushing and daily flossing—a crown can last many years. It is important to avoid biting down on exceptionally hard objects, such as ice or hard candies, to prevent chipping the porcelain. Regular dental check-ups at our DeSoto office allow us to monitor the integrity of the crown and the health of the surrounding gum tissue.

Your dentist at DeSoto Smile Studio will evaluate whether a traditional crown is a good option for you. Whether you need to restore a single tooth or are looking for a more comprehensive smile transformation, our team is dedicated to providing durable, beautiful results. Call us today!
